The sixth Trans-Canada Championship Match was held over the telephone on Saturday, July 15, 2006. The two teams had just participated in that day's two Canadian tournaments:

• Vancouver Estival Trivia Open: UBC Pseudo team of Daniel, Brendan, and Richard. (Teammate Angus had left early.)
• VETO's Eastern Trivia Open in Toronto: Toronto team of Eric, Bobby, and Jeff. (Teammate Matto had left early.)

The game was untimed, with 20 tossups.

Technical notes

Last year we tried to use JoeQuiz, but it didn't work. This year, we tried JoeQuiz again, and after at least half an hour of tinkering, we got it to work, but unfortunately it crashed after every tossup. Since that was no fun, after two tossups played with JoeQuiz, we reverted to the older method for the rest of the game.

Both teams had speakerphones and buzzer systems. The moderator didn't seem to have much difficulty determining which site was the origin of the first buzz.

Those of us who have been running Trans-Canada Championship Matches over the years unfortunately keep forgetting that the game would go more smoothly if we were serious about imposing certain rules during the reading of tossup questions:

• it should be obvious, but can be easy to forget, that players who buzz in must be required to remain silent until the moderator says which site has buzzed in first;
• even after the moderator calls "Vancouver" or "Toronto", players should be required to remain silent until the local sub-moderator announces which player has buzzed in — both to avoid the possibility of local confusion and also to help scorekeepers on all sides;
• as in a regular game, players shouldn't be allowed to speak during tossups (other than shouting "buzz" if necessary). If there are any technical complications during the reading of a tossup, then the local sub-moderator should be solely responsible for communicating them to the moderator.

Results

UBC Pseudo defeated Toronto, 225 to 140.
